Continuing the Australian Holiday

This post is quite out-dated, but I will be picking up where we left off in Touring Mt. Gambier, in which we were driving around the countryside searching out farms to tour. The second farm we happened upon was a dairy farm. We spent quite a while here looking at their herds and talking about farming techniques. We didn't get any photos at this visit, but we were invited back for the 5:00am milking to see their 60-cow rotary milking parlor. As the evening got late, we finally headed back to our little bungalow for supper.

We had a lovely supper of kangaroo steak, baked potatoes, frozen veggies, and chocolate cake.

After getting some sleep, we drove back over to the dairy farm for the early 5am milking. Some of us had mixed feelings about getting up that early to watch someone milk cows, but we decided to go for a certain gentleman's sake.

If you want all the details on the farm and milking set up, just ask Linden.

I can't remember the husbands name, but Jennifer was the wife, I think. (Linden would remember for sure. Edit 8/30/18: Linden said his name was Nole.) It was pretty interesting to watch, having never seen a rotary milker before. I don't think I'm going to be milking cows again anytime soon, though.

After our tour of the milking parlor, we started our trip eastward out of Mt. Gambier. Along the way, we stopped to check out Umpherston Sinkhole.

They had these sweet benches made out of logs along the path to the sinkhole.

The entire area was gorgeous and well taken care of.

Once you were in the sinkhole, there was a second level behind all the hanging green stuff that you could walk thru.

In some places, they made cut-outs in the green so that you could still look down on the gardens.

Jul absolutely loved all of the flowers and took lots of pictures with them.

Posing with a big, pretty, pink flower.

Being down inside and looking up and around at everything growing all over the place was amazing!

There was a cool little waterfall at one spot on the wall.

Here we were trying to take a certain style of photograph. (I'll let you decide what type of photo.)

Stay tuned for a more timely continuation of the Australian Holiday!
