We left Friday afternoon and for once the weather man was correct, as it started snowing on our way down. The first 4 of us that got there put all of our stuff into the motel and then went to see Fish Creek Falls which was just up the road. There was an easy, snow-packed trail to get to the falls.
This picture probably best depicts the snow-pack on the trail.
Can you find the waterfall?
There was water flowing behind all the ice.
I thought it was really neat how there were icicles going from the snow on the rocks down into the river.
There was a trail going up to the top of the falls and on to a lake. Jake, however, decided to forge his own trail up the side of the mountain.
For each step, he had to dig out a foothold in the snow and ice. He'd take about 2 steps up, then slide 4 steps back.
Finally he made it up to where we were.
For some reason, this view reminded me of the "Lord of the Rings" movies.
After our hike, we went to met Shaun and Tiffany, the remaining 2 of our party, at Beaujo's for pizza. Afterwards, we walked around downtown and looked in the different shops. Outside of the one place, there was this horse.
Tiffany gladly modeled on the pony for the rest of us.
When we got back to the motel, there was some mandolin and guitar jamming, along with lots of talking and self-entertainment. At about 11pm, we got out a birthday cake that I had made for Brit and sang Happy Birthday.
The home-made Tirimisu Cake that was absolutely delicious!
The following morning, we all got up and ready to hit the mountain. The lifts opened at 8:30 and we got up there close to 9, I think. This was going to be the first time I had ridden the new snowboard that I had purchased earlier that week specifically for this trip. And it was also going to be only the 3rd time I had boarded in the past 2 years. Everyone else was a seasoned snowboarder.

Headed up the lift on Morningside. It snowed all day long!
Justin headed down the hill.
Justin took my camera and got the rest of these pictures.
Justin, Jake, and Shaun. These guys are fearless (or pretend to be) and go ripping down the hill and thru the trees much faster then us girls.
It was super pretty on Saturday and was a perfect day for snowboarding.

Taking a lunch break on Day 1.
After snowboarding that day, we all went to the Hot Springs which were right across the street from our motel. It was very badly needed for our sore muscles and aching body (some of us were worse off then others.) All of the hot pools were outside and it was snowing. So while you were sitting in the hot pool, your head was getting covered in snow. And there was lots of steam making it a bit like a sauna. After spending about 2 or so hours in the hot springs, we all went out for dinner at the Ghost Ranch which had a bluegrass band performing.

Strapping in for a run. It was colder on this day and there was a little wind, which made it bitter. And it was still snowing!
The ever graceful Brittany.
I am the second from the left, working my way down the middle section of this run.
I impressed myself this weekend with my new snowboard!
My master and teacher, Miss Brit.
My adviser, Justin.
And the person who made sure I didn't die the first day, Jake.
Working our way down to the bottom: me, Brit, and Jake way in the distance.
It was a great weekend at Steamboat!
For those that don't know Steamboat, it is a complete mountain range with 1200 hectares (2,965 acres) of ski trails. It's base elevation is 6,900 ft. rising to 10,568 ft. at it's summit. It has 165 named trails with the longest trail being over 3 miles long. Glen - we're going here the next winter you come to visit!
That's a whole lot of snow! If we had snow like that here, we wouldn't have power for weeks. I trust you all had electricity there. I'd say you've got talent, girl, to do all that snowboarding. I also think you might need to strap on some whale blubber to keep you warm the next time you do this!
